DON'T MISS

Tour the Achillion Palace, built by the Empress Elizabeth of Austria in 1891, and get a view of the well laid out palace gardens. The Achillion Palace is a study of neo classical architecture, and be sure to see the sculpture of a dying Achilles.

  • Visit the ornate 16th century St Spyridon Church, to admire its wealth of incredible silverware
  • The Palace of St Michael & St George former residence of the British High Commissioner, is a resplendent museum today housing some incredible Asian art.
  • Walk down the maze of cobbled stone streets and admire the whitewashed houses with flowers spilling out of their balconies
  • Take in the fabulous view of the blue Ionian Sea from a coastal café or take a scenic drive along the coastline

GRAB A BITE

A must-eat at should be at Italian tavern Klimataria in Benitses, where everything served on the menu is delicious and as fresh as can be. Do be sure to call ahead for reservations as it's a highly popular restaurant.

SHOPPING

In the Old Town, buy some wild honey and handmade lace to take back home. A popular buy would be locally made wooden handicrafts and table clothes.

The average temps at the start of summer in May hovers in the pleasant 75°F/24°C and at the height of summer in August goes up to a soaring 88°F/32°C.

The Euro is the currency used in Greece and major credit cards are accepted most everywhere.
